Almost done

The bun in this oven is almost done. We have no idea how much he weighs at this point but no doubt Tania’s next scan (on Tuesday Dec 13) will reveal more.

Almost done

Whoops, just been told that it’s not actually a scan but rather a std. visit to the doctor. So, guess there will be no further updates on weight until the actual event. Watch this space.

Motherhood! or Hello Ugly Stick!

So, we attended the last of our ante-natal classes the other night. It was all about what to expect when baby comes home. Apparently, simply feeding the baby can take 8-10 hours a day. This was news to me and quite shocking news at that. Bathing and changing nappies can add up to another couple of hours. Once again, big news and once again, big shock. I don’t know what I expected. Actually I do. I expected to be at the gym for an hour everyday, I expected to be able to go for my pedicures. Damn it, I expected the baby would work around my schedule. I fear this is where my thinking may have been fatally flawed. So I’m gonna be fat with hideous feet. But that’s not all, apparently I may not even have time to blow dry my hair. I swear, baby Per is going to see me coo-cooing over his cot and wonder who the hell this crazy, bad hair person is. No wonder babies cry so much. They’re not hungry. They’re horrified.

Epidural anyone?

So it’s official. I will be giving birth the way God intended. And now I am shitting myself. Oh well, millions have done it before me so it can’t be that bad, can it? Anyway, the trip to the hospital yesterday was interesting. The nurse very kindly telling me that I was ‘larger than most at 32 weeks’. Yeah thanks lady. Funny how people feel they can comment on a pregnant woman’s size. Like the checkout chick at the local supermarket who exclaimed ‘my god you’re huge!’. If that wasn’t bad enough, a pregnant woman asked me if I was having twins. Hey, she’s supposed to be on my side. Fat cow. At least the size of one’s stomach doesn’t reflect the size of one’s baby, my motherhood books assured me. Except in my case of course. Per is a very healthy 2.1kg. I must admit I was a little disturbed by this news and so did some reading up on baby weight when I got home from the hospital. And yes from now until birth the baby can gain up to a pound a week. Oh joy!

Allllllllllll’s welllllllll

Yesterday we had to go for yet another scan to determine whether Tania was going to require a caesarian. This was due to the fact that her placenta had been sitting low which could lead to complications. As it turns out everything’s shifted round and is now in the right position so no caesarian. We also found out that Per is currently 2.1kg which is above average… Tania’s getting nervous. Round peg and square hole springs to mind.
